Safe medicine tips for parents

Dosing children by weight, avoiding adult medicines, and the home pharmacy items every Indian parent should keep.

Children aren't small adults. Their dose, formulation and tolerance are different — and the margin for error is smaller.

Golden rules

  • Dose by weight, not by age, whenever the label allows
  • Use the measuring cup or syringe that comes in the box
  • Never use adult tablets cut in half for kids
  • Check expiry on every bottle before the dose

What to keep at home

Paracetamol syrup, ORS sachets, a digital thermometer, antiseptic, bandages, and the pediatrician's phone number on the fridge.
