Most medicine mishaps at home are preventable. These ten habits cover the basics.
At home
- Keep one labelled medicine box per family member
- Store medicines below 30 °C, away from sunlight and the bathroom
- Lock the box if there are young children at home
- Never share antibiotics — always finish your full course
- Throw out expired medicines every 6 months
When buying or scanning
- Buy only from licensed pharmacies with a GST bill
- Photograph the pack and store it in ImproveIt for a permanent record
- Note the batch and expiry of any new medicine in a family note
- Re-check unfamiliar packs with the medicine scanner
- Show the scan to your doctor when in doubt
