Most medicine mishaps at home are preventable. These ten habits cover the basics.

At home

  • Keep one labelled medicine box per family member
  • Store medicines below 30 °C, away from sunlight and the bathroom
  • Lock the box if there are young children at home
  • Never share antibiotics — always finish your full course
  • Throw out expired medicines every 6 months

When buying or scanning

  • Buy only from licensed pharmacies with a GST bill
  • Photograph the pack and store it in ImproveIt for a permanent record
  • Note the batch and expiry of any new medicine in a family note
  • Re-check unfamiliar packs with the medicine scanner
  • Show the scan to your doctor when in doubt
